Merry Christmas 2023

This is a big week for a lot of reasons. First and foremost, today is my wife’s birthday! I won’t disclose which one, but let’s just say birthdays are getting a little more precious at her (and my) age! If I had planned better, the unique aspects of a December birthday would make an excellent blog topic. Well, maybe next year.

This is a big week and a special blog as it is my last of 2023! Taking two weeks off from blogging to finish out the year, something I haven’t done since starting blogging in 2020. This is more out of necessity than deliberate design as next week we are going on vacation!

I’ve lamented in previous blogs about my failure to plan family vacations over the last few years. It certainly looked like 2023 was going to be another vacationless year. That is until I pulled together a quick ski getaway next week.

It will be the first time any of us have skied the Rockies and I am certainly not looking forward to the holiday season travel to get to our destination.  But I am absolutely stoked about spending five days with my family in a beautiful wintery backdrop. This winter vacation is a first for us. Who knows perhaps it will be the beginning of a new family tradition. I am curious if other families have Winter vacation traditions?

Also, looking forward to Christmas Eve, when our family will pause for a moment to celebrate and remember the reason for this wonderful season. The promise of eternal peace and joy made over 2000 years ago.

Even in a 2023 marked with war and uncertainty, our family has had a truly blessed year and we are very thankful. We can only pray for the same in 2024. No matter what earthly trials we may face, He will be with us through all things.
