Thanksgiving 2023

The turkey is thawing, ingredients are purchased, and Tylenol is on standby, all set for another Thanksgiving feast! I truly enjoy preparing a traditional meal complete with dressing, casseroles and my almost famous deviled eggs.  More than the preparation and serving, I really enjoy falling into a tryptophan induced slumber!

Of course, Thanksgiving isn’t about the food; it’s about being thankful. Pretty easy to forget nowadays with everything going on in our lives. Ironically, many of the very things that make us forget about the purpose of Thanksgiving are the very blessings we should be so thankful for!

I’ll go first. 2023 has been a big year for our family.  We moved to our almost “forever” home, our oldest is working through his second year at one of the toughest universities in the country and our youngest is excelling in every facet. Despite the harsh economic times all is pretty stable on the financial front. Our family remains in good health, and we stay extremely active.

The byproduct of all these blessings is sometimes a life tempo that causes us to forget what is truly important- faith and family. We try to count our blessings the year through, but admittedly fall short often. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, not entirely sure who came up with the idea, but it is pretty awesome to have one day designated every year to come together and refocus on being thankful. I am looking forward to giving thanks on Thursday.

I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! I’d be remiss if I didn’t offer a reminder that somewhere, perhaps in harm’s way, there is an American son or daughter, passing through a chow line celebrating their first Thanksgiving away from home. I am thankful for them!
